28 November-9 December | Durban | COP17/CMP7
The 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) will be hosted by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and held in Durban from 28th November to 9 December 2011. There are 192 countries that are currently signed up, including all of the major economies and greenhouse gas emitters. A primary focus of the conference will be to secure a global climate agreement because the Kyoto Protocol’s commitment period will end in 2012. Find out more: www.cop17-cmp7durban.com.

The meeting will include presentations detailing evidence for media coverage and journalistic practices about human-induced climate change and its present and projected effects on the planet, especially the global south. Many of the talks will explore social and economic impacts on both rural livelihoods and cities. Discussions will be held on climate change mitigation, vulnerability and adaptation, culminating in several forward thinking policy commitments and the launch of a new publication on media and climate change by Nordicom.
